Paw-sitive Dog Shelter Initiative

At La Chiave Verde, caring for nature means caring for every living being.
Our Paw-sitive Dog Shelter initiative rescues and rehabilitates stray and abandoned dogs in the Crocchio Valley, offering medical care, gentle training, and loving homes.
Some dogs receive specialized training to detect illnesses such as diabetes, Parkinson’s or epilepsy, turning rescue into lifesaving service. Others find forever families or enjoy a safe retreat while their owners travel. Partnering with veterinary schools and local groups, the project strengthens animal welfare, builds local skills and sustainable tourism with innovative research.

La Chiave Verde began as a bold response to a changing world – and from the very start, working side by side with the people of the Crocchio Valley has been essential to our vision. The pandemic and other global uncertainties revealed how vital it is to live with intention: close to nature, connected to one another, and true to our values. Together with local residents, we chose to design a new way forward – a community where sustainability and well‑being are daily practice.
Two thousand years ago, a Han Dynasty engineer designed the first eco‑lamp to protect indoor air quality, and a Baghdad craftsman built one of the world’s first batteries. Their insight still guides us: technology is a moral act. How we light our homes, power our villages, and manage our land reflects what we believe. La Chiave Verde carries that same spirit to Southern Italy, using the best of European battery innovation and Chinese eco‑wisdom to bring sustainable light to the hills of Calabria.
Our purpose is clear – to live well while treading lightly. With local craftspeople and farmers, we are restoring historic stone homes with green materials, cultivating organic crops, and harnessing solar energy and battery storage to create a self‑sufficient foundation. Community microgrids, rooftop solar, and village‑scale batteries are turning Cropani and the Crocchio Valley into a living laboratory: reducing energy bills, cutting emissions, and anchoring young people to their heritage. This collaboration ensures that growth strengthens the region and that traditions are honored and passed on.
